RavensWood Team

Who we are…

RavensWood Fibre Co is a studio and a home overlooking the Moose River that drains into the Annapolis Basin, on the Fundy Shore of Nova Scotia.  Over the year, the team has grown from an idea to include 2 full time people, 2 part timers, 9 creatures of fur and feather and one amazing wholesale representative.

Sam is the creative force driving the RavensWood story.  She has always been inspired by colour and since a very young age, been playing with string.  RavensWood is a dream come true for Sam, having left her corporate life in Calgary, she followed her heart to begin her life with David in their historical home in Nova Scotia in 2016.  The Studio is located at the end of the line for the historical underground railway of the loyalists.  Originally built as the rectory for the “Old” St. Edwards Church – (est. 1791), in 1841, many families later, stands on the hill overlooking the beautiful Annapolis Basin that drains into the famous Bay of Fundy.  Along with the tidal water view, the Studio backs onto nearly 200 acres of forest land. Walks in the forest or on the beach with Harlee and David are the inspiration for much of RavensWood’s creations.  Outside of the studio, far from her “high heel days” of another life, you are more likely to find her in rubber boots, playing fetch with Harlee or chasing chickens around the garden.  Sam’s famous quotes would include the words…. “What if…?”

David is the reason RavensWood has a beginning.  On a trip out west, David met Sam in 2014.  A year later the two were engaged and talking about what was next in their lives. His love of Nova Scotia was what brought Sam to the Maritimes.  David is always ready to support the studio when he isn’t saving lives in his real job as a paramedic.  Full time support in the studio includes machine maintenance, production manager, shipping, receiving and making sure Sam’s coffee cup is full – for the safety of all those around her. He is known to have his hand at the dye table occasionally and is always RavensWood’s biggest fan.

Anik joined the RavensWood family in November of 2017 after meeting same and David at Knit East in October of that year.  It was love at first site when Sam noticed the shoes Anik wore. Immediately the two hit it off with their common love of Fluevogs and string!  It wasn’t long before the “What if…?” became “How can we…?”  Anik travels Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes sprinkling retail shops with RavensWood as she passes.  At RavensWood, we think Anik is magic.  We are so glad to have her laughter around the Studio, when she gets the chance.

Alexis has been a part of RavensWood since before the beginning.  She is always the first to inspire and be inspired.  No one can “Google” like Alexis!  “What can I do?” is a common phrase heard from her.  This photo was her request.  I think it perfectly suits her work ethic.  Willing to take on the storm, whether from out west or here in the studio, Alexis gets the job done and we love her for it.

IMG_6323  Harlee – Trouble and Security

Harlee joined the RavensWood family in November 2016.  None of us had any idea how much “trouble” she could add but when it comes to guarding chickens and getting in the way, she is extraordinary.  If you find the Studio, you will be well greeted by this Golden Doodle and it won’t be long before you have a new best friend, especially if you bring treats.

Alice and Edna – Production Assistants

Edna and Alice work almost full time knitting up sock blanks.  They are tireless forces in the studio that although wish to remain anonymous, couldn’t be more fore front.  We couldn’t do our jobs without them!
